Weld Engineer

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication with metals. Create, maintain, and drive improvement of Standardized Work Instruction utilizing Lean practices. Manage all aspects of weld cell operations, new product launches, trouble shooting, technical recommendations, and training.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
Is involved in the APQP process and defining the best weld process, tooling and conditions for all new jobs at program launch.
Participates in product launch meetings and makes recommendations for feasibility and print review.
Develops best methods of weld validation for all new launch product and review of existing.
Conducts Kaizan activities to reduce weld time and optimize robot programming.
Conducts research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures, discover new patterns of welding phenomena, or to correlate and substantiate hypotheses.
Establishes welding procedures for production and welding personnel, to ensure compliance with specifications, processes, and heating requirements. Help optimize weld programming.
Work to reduction in weld scrap and changeover times.
Prepares technical reports as result of research and development and preventive maintenance investigations.
Maintains a library of company weld equipment, robot program backup and maintain as living documents.
Also responsible for weld training, creating new training topics when needed throughout the organization.
Creating and maintain cut and etch or weld destruct standards working with Quality department to insure best methods to protect the customer and MTD.
Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre- and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.
Build and use functional weld models to estimate cycle times for sales and quoting purposes.
Research potential cost savings with weld consumables/gasses; benchmark consumables for quality and longevity.
Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
Directs and coordinates technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure workers' compliance with established welding procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing welds for conformance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification.
Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters.
May perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
EDUCATION
Degree in Engineering or the equivalent of four (4) years of college with specialized training in manufacturing processes and problem solving.

EXPERIENCE
Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience with working knowledge of stamping, welding, and assembly processes. In addition to Microsoft office suite experience, Solid Works experience is required for this position. Also, excellent interpersonal skills with all levels of employees.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
